For years, builders and developers have been leaders in finding green ways to do business. The title industry, on the other hand, has never been particularly environmentally friendly. The average closing, for example, uses approximately 460 sheets of paper and ends up causing a large amount of carbon emissions from mail, overnight services and travel time for transaction parties. At Stewart, we’re trying to change that.
Stewart is moving to green and leading the way for the title industry with the Stewart Green Initiative. Using proprietary online technology we’re enabling the entire real estate transaction – from contract to close – to go paperless. Using technology like our Stewart Online™, powered by SureClose®, and eClosingRoom™ online transaction management and closing technology, parties to the transaction can review, share, and electronically approve and sign documents – reducing the carbon footprint of the transaction.
Obviously, moving to green isn’t just about the technology, it’s also about people. So, as part of the initiative, we’re encouraging our offices and all members of the transaction process to not only use our technology but to adopt eco-friendly practices as well. Currently, over 100 offices throughout the U.S. have been recognized as green through the initiative, with more offices making the move to green every day.
